FAQs

Q?

Is tuition really necessary?

A.

If your child is achieving a satisfactory level at school, then our method of tuition may not be necessary. While we believe that group tuition is most effective, it may not suit the learning style of all students. Students who find it difficult to concentrate for long periods of time, or who struggle only in specific subjects, may be more suited to one-on-one tuition. Tuitonworks caters for students of an advanced level who are motivated and dedicated to extend themselves and excel in their academic success. Our programme is for students who wish to work hard to improve their abilities beyond the limitation of classroom teaching at school. We believe that every student can benefit from tuition in order to achieve their potential.

Q?

Why is small group tuition better?

A.

As stated above, group tuition may not suit the learning style of all students. However, for students who are motivated and willing to work hard, it is evident that group tuition is more effective. There are several reasons for this:

  • Individual tuition increases the anxiety of students.
  • In a small group situation, students can relax and enjoy the ‘cross pollination’ that comes from interacting with students of a similar academic level.
  • Students receive individual attention as groups are small.
  • It is easier for the tutor to motivate a group rather than an individual.
  • A more varied range of teaching methods can be used with a small group of students.

Q?

Where do Tuitionworks get their teaching staff?

A.

Our tutors are selected due to their passion for teaching and their desire to help students achieve academic success. We employ undergraduates who have excelled in SACE or IB as well as in their University studies. All tutors are required to submit a copy of their recent academic results before employment, to ensure that we only employ tutors of the very highest academic standard. Our tutors are trained internally at Tuitionworks to ensure they meet our high standards, and must pass a police background check. All of our tutors are excellent communicators, who work hard to make learning experiences enjoyable, and who act as excellent role models for young students.

Q?

What if my child finds the programme too difficult?

A.

Tutors and staff are trained to monitor the progress of each student. However, students should expect to find the Tuitionworks programme much more difficult than their work at school. We teach material ahead of the school curriculum in order to challenge students and extend their abilities, so do not worry if students appear to be having some difficulties, as this is to be expected. As long as students are achieving at least 50% in their term tests, they are achieving at a satisfactory level.

Q?

How much homework is involved every week?

A.

Students would expect to spend at least half an hour to one hour a week, per subject, on Tuitionworks homework. Students may attend a free Homework Help Class if they are having difficulties with their homework. Homework Help classes are on Friday 4:30-7:30 and Saturday 12:10-1:10

Q?

Do I need to purchase any equipment for my child’s tuition?

A.

All learning materials are provided free of charge.

Q?

What if my child is sick or unavailable on the day of the class?

A.

If your child is absent, homework and class work will be passed on to students. Students have the opportunity to attend a homework help session to complete their missed work and address any difficulties they may have with a tutor.
